The Specialised Centre for Children with Learning Difficulties
The centre at Oakfield was established at the beginning of the Autumn Term 2004. It is housed in purpose-built accommodation within the main school building. It offers specialised provision within a mainstream junior school setting for children with learning difficulties. It is an integral part of the school and all the children in the centre are full members of their mainstream class. Eventually, it will take up to 18 children across the whole age range in the school.
Mrs Mare runs the learning centre. At present, there are 16 children who are taught for some of their lessons in the centre and some in their mainstream class with support. A small number of children from mainstream classes are also taught in the centre if their learning needs can best be met there. The centre staff consists of two teachers, and two full-time teaching assistants and three part time teaching assistants.
The number of adults teaching and supporting children in the centre will increase as the number of children increases.
